The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the Civil Services prelims 2021 exam in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.

The UPSC Prelims 2021, which was scheduled for June 27, will now be held on October 10, 2021.

"Due to the prevailing conditions caused by the Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), the Union Public Service Commission has deferred the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2021, which was scheduled to be held on 27th June, 2021. Now, this Examination will be held on 10th October, 2021," the UPSC notice read.

Earlier, candidates had demanded postponement or cancellation of the exam.

On the other hand, recruitment exams like SSC CGL and some other exams of SSC CHSL were also postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The commission had earlier notified 712 vacancies. Aspirants will have to clear preliminary exams, mains exam and interview or personality test round to get recruited for the UPSC civil services.

Earlier in 2020, the Commission had to rescheduled the same exam from May 31 to October 4 due to the COVID pandemic.
