Are you confused...whether to opt for various degrees in distant/online mode or the conventional mode? Well, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notice clearing such confusion in the minds of many.

In its latest notice, the UGC has shed light on ‘Equivalence of degree obtained through ODL and Oline mode with degree obtained through conventional mode.’

“Degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level in conformity with UGC notification on Specification of Degrees, 2014 and post-graduate diplomas awarded through Open and Distance training mode and/or online mode by Higher Educational Institutions, recognised by the Commission under these regulations, shall be treated as equivalent to the corresponding awards of the Degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level and post-graduate diplomas offered through conventional mode," UGC said in a public notice.

It is pertinent to mention here that the UGC has been issuing regular updates regarding various degrees and other advisories for students and other stakeholders.

The Commission recently came up with draft guidelines to enable transformation of higher education institutions (HEIs) into multidisciplinary institutions. It also asked colleges and universities to take necessary initiatives in this regard.

The UGC has also invited online applications from eligible candidates under multiple fellowship/ research grant schemes for 2022. The last date for receiving the online applications is October 10, 2022.
