Putting an end to speculations surrounding the resumption of the physical mode of teaching in primary schools, the Odisha government on Friday reiterated that schools for class 1 to 5 students will reopen from January 3, 2022.

Amid the Omicron scare, the State School and Mass Education Minister Sameer Dash today informed that classes will resume for primary school students from Monday.

Nodal officers are regularly visiting all the districts and the concerned department secretary is frequently having discussions with DEOs and BEOs on the situation, said Dash.

He further said that students can also attend online classes. "Directions have been issued to ensure schools have clean campus and students stay away from gatherings," said the Minister.

Dash had earlier informed about Odisha government's decision to resume physical mode of teaching in about 27,000 schools in the State. "In schools where the summative exam for class 10 students has been scheduled, the physical classes will resume from January 10, 2022 ," he had said.

The State government has already released the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) which will be followed during the resumption of physical mode of teaching in primary schools across the State.

Earlier, the Director of the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) had said that the Odisha government's decision to reopen schools for standard 1 to 5 students from next month might be revoked in view of the rising cases of Covid-19 and Omicron fear.
