The special offline High School Certificate (HSC) examinations for class 10, which started on July 30, concluded today amid controversies of question paper-goof up at a centre on the premises of headquarters of Board of Secondary Education (BSE) in Cuttack.

BSE president Ramashis Hazra today informed that evaluation of answer-sheets will begin from August 12 at nine evaluation centres across the State. The results will be announced three to four days after the assessment.

Admitting to the blunder, Hazra said that the mistake was resolved soon after it was reported. The students who were mistakenly given the Ex-Regular papers were allotted additional one hour to write, he said.

“It was an inadvertent error as students of both regular and ex-regular sat together in one examination hall.  There was no confusion on question papers as ‘regular and ex-regular’ was clearly mentioned on the papers,” Hazra said.

On the allegations leveled by students that they were provided a question paper of 2014, he clarified that it was 2014 syllabus under which the ex-regular students were appearing the exams.

The final answer sheets on which the students wrote after they were handed out the right question papers have been kept separately. These sheets would be taken into consideration during evaluation, he added.

On Tuesday, around 20 regular students were reportedly given the 2014 ex-regular question papers during the offline examination at Board High School in Cuttack. After the faux pass was brought to the notice, the examination authorities took back the papers and distributed the regular question papers to the students.

As many as 15,155 students have opted for Class 10 offline examinations after being dissatisfied with the marks awarded to them through an alternative assessment system.
