Hitting out at the BJD-led Odisha Government over the alleged irregularities in the allotment of pucca houses under the PM Awas Yojana, the Odisha unit of BJP today accused the State government of depriving illegible beneficiaries of their rights under the housing scheme.

At a press meet, BJP State president Sameer Mohanty, who led a party delegation to various areas of Bhadrak on Wednesday, said that people are facing police action for voicing the illegalities in public.

Mohanty, who visited various places in Tihidi block of Bhadrak district and met some victims, said alleged that some people who protested against the irregularities two days ago had been arrested by the police.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working tirelessly to ensure pucca houses to all by the end of 2022. However, the Odisha Government is having a step-motherly attitude while allotting the houses. Only BJD supporters have been benefitted from the scheme and given houses, he alleged.

He said BJP activists too faced the wrath of ruling party when they protested against the illegal act by the State government.
Mohanty said in the last two days, his team took stock of the illegal practice in different parts of Bhadrak district.

"We found several deserving people have been deprived of houses under the Awas scheme. Names of the beneficiaries have been removed from the list deliberately. How did the illegible beneficiaries turn ineligible? Who made them unfit for getting a roof under the government housing scheme,” he asked.

He said no action has been taken against the officials who are involved in such irregularities.

“What prevented the government from initiating action against the erring officials," Mohanty questioned.

No reaction from the BJD over the BJP’s allegations has been received so far.
