The Odisha government has decided to set up an Iconic Adarsha Vidyalaya at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore, State School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash said on Friday.

The iconic Adarsha Vidyalaya will come up on 25 acres of land at Andharua on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The ground breaking ceremony of the Iconic school will be held on September 5 on the occasion of Teachers' Day.

The school will have Class XI to XII and ‘best 500’ students to be chosen from 314 Adarsha Vidyalayas across the State will get admission into the school.

“An iconic Adarsh Vidyalaya is going to be established at Andharua. It will come up on 25 acres of land at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore. The school will have Class XI and XII. There will be arrangement for study of 500 students,” Dash told media persons.

“Meritorious students from 314 Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs) across the State will get admission into the Iconic Adarsha Vidyalaya. Apart from teaching for Class XI and XII, there will be facilities for coaching for NDA and other examinations for the students. The State government will bear all the expenses of education and lodging of the students,” Dash added.  

Dash further stated that the Iconic school will start functioning from a rented accommodation from the current academic session. The Iconic Adarsha Vidyalaya project will be commissioned by 2022.
