There is no substitute for hard work. However, with hard work, the UPSC Civil Services Exam aspirants need to do smart work as well, said Odisha’s Anup Das, who secured All India Rank 38 in the Civil Services Examination, 2022.
Anup Das is already in Indian Revenue Service and posted in the Income Tax Department, Delhi. It is for the second time that he has cracked the civil services.
“I had first cracked the UPSC Civil Services in 2020 and again appeared after a gap of three years. There have been a lot of changes and the aspirants need to prepare keeping in mind the current scenario, competition as UPSC is also evolving and they make the exam competitive,” said Das.
Key To Success
There is no substitute for hard work. At the same time, aspirants need to do smart work as well. According to Das, it was tough to prepare again for the civil services despite being in a job. However, the department was supportive and gave leave as per requirement, he said.
Questions Asked in the Interview
I was asked a lot of questions related to the revenue services. Apart from that, a lot of questions were asked regarding my hobbies, language, and food as well. “My grandmother and mother were into painting and sculpting and that creativity was in me and it helped me a lot,” said Das.

“Please plan after analysing your strengths and seek help from others to strengthen your weakness. As it is your goal and dream and you have to make your own path,” Das added.
