Her mother had mortgaged gold for her studies. Now, her daughter has made her proud by securing an impressive AIR-492 in the recently announced UPSC CSE 2023. We are talking about the inspiring journey of Swati Mohan Rathod, daughter of a vegetable vendor, who battled all odds to become a civil servant.

Despite humble upbringing and severe financial crisis, Swati focused more on her UPSC preparation instead of cribbing about her poverty. It was her dream to end the struggle and sufferings of her parents. The tears of joy in her parents’ eyes, is the best award she has ever gotten.

Hailing from Solapur in Maharashtra, Swati was born to a vegetable vendor. Her family includes three other daughters and a son, DNA India reported. Being a vegetable vendor, Swati’s family battled financial constraints but that didn’t hinder Swati’s dream.

After completing her secondary education in a government school, Swati pursued Bachelors and Masters degree in Geography at Walchand College in Solapur. It was during her days in the college she came to know about UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE).

However, it wasn’t an easy journey for Swati as she had to face failures for five times. It took her five attempts to finally clear the UPSC exam.
