In a remarkable narrative that defies conventional wisdom, Karthik Madhira, originally from Hyderabad, shifted gears from a promising cricket career to don the prestigious uniform of the Indian Police Service (IPS).
Despite excelling in cricket at various levels, including Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19, as well as at the university level, Karthik's trajectory took an unexpected turn.
According to a DNA report, after completing a degree in Computer Science Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), personal reasons and an unfortunate injury prompted Karthik to reassess his career path. Following a brief stint in a job, he realised his true calling lay in civil services, particularly the IPS.
Karthik encountered initial setbacks in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, facing failure in the first three attempts, including non-clearance of the preliminary exams. Undeterred, he persisted in his preparation, honing in on his optional subject, Sociology.
Opting for a holistic approach, Karthik concurrently prepared for both prelims and mains, emphasizing strategic planning, continuous revision, and rigorous test series practice. His steadfast dedication bore fruit in the UPSC 2019 exam, where, on his fourth attempt, he secured an impressive 103rd rank.
Currently serving in the Maharashtra cadre, Karthik Madhira's journey serves as a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and a holistic approach to preparation.
