From Golgappa seller to ISRO Technician: The inspiring journey of Ramdas Hemraj Marbade
Ramdas Hemraj Marbade’s journey from the bustling streets of Tirora, where he once sold golgappas to support his family, to the prestigious corridors of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), is nothing short of inspirational.
Born into a humble background, Ramdas always nurtured a dream that seemed far out of reach—working with ISRO.
Undeterred by his circumstances, Ramdas pursued technical education with determination. He enrolled at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Tirora, choosing a course as a Pump Operator-cum-Mechanic.
There, he immersed himself in learning, mastering the intricacies of centrifugal and reciprocating pumps, fluid dynamics, pressure systems, cavitation, water treatment, and maintenance in oil and gas systems. His dedication and thirst for knowledge were evident in every aspect of his training.

In 2023, when ISRO announced recruitment for Apprentice Trainees, Ramdas seized the opportunity. He applied online, determined to prove his mettle. In 2024, he successfully cleared the written examination held in Nagpur. His technical skills and hands-on experience earned him a call for the crucial skill test at Sriharikota on August 29. Ramdas’s performance there impressed the panel, and he was finally selected.
On May 19, 2025, Ramdas received his joining letter and stepped into a new chapter of life as a Pump Operator-cum-Mechanic at ISRO’s Space Centre in Sriharikota. Today, he contributes to the micro aspects of research operations—playing a critical role in India’s space missions.
Ramdas Marbade's story is a powerful reminder that with hard work, skill, and resilience, even the most distant dreams can be realized. His rise from a street vendor to a technician at ISRO embodies the spirit of perseverance and the power of believing in oneself.
