The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has come up with a circular regarding the special provisions made for students participating in national, international sporting events and international Olympiads.

It is pertinent to mention here that since March 2018, the CBSE has been providing a special opportunity to the students by conducting special examination (s) at a later date (s), especially for those who participate in national, international sporting events and whose board examination clash with the dates of the journey for the events recognised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI).

Similarly, CBSE since March 2020 is also extending similar option for the students who are participating in International Olympiads and whose CBSE board exams clash with dates of Olympiad dates including dates of journey for the Olympiad recognised by appropriate authority in India- Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE).

Recently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released guidelines for the conduct of Practical Examination/ Project Assessment/ Internal Assessment for Classes 10 and 12, for Winter Bound Schools for the academic session 2022-23.

In its circular, the board has shared the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding what needs to be done under such special circumstances. They include:

-The students need to submit a request to their school for availing special opportunity in the Board’s main examination.

-Schools are to request the SAI/BCCI/HBCSE for issuing certificate of participating.

-Schools need to send their recommendations along with the ‘certificate of participation’ of SAI/BCCI/HBCSE to the concerned regional office of the CBSE.

“These activities must be completed in such a manner that school recommendations along with a certificate of participation reach the concerned regional office latest by December 31 of the academic year,” the CBSE circular read.

As per the SOP, the concerned regional office will communicate the approval to the concerned schools by January 15 of the academic year. Similarly, the rescheduled examination will be preferably conducted within 15 days from the last examination in the date sheet of the main board examinations of the concerned year, the circular added.
