The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has taken strict note of instances where some of the Institutions are offering technical education programs without necessary approvals.

In a notice, AICTE has stated that all the technical institutes and institutions deemed to be Universities offering programmes in Engineering & Technology, Applied Arts & Craft and Design, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, MCA and Management at Diploma / Post Diploma Certificate / Under Graduate Degree / Post Graduate Diploma / Post Graduate Degree Level / Fellowship / Collaboration and Twinning Program need (including Open & Distance Learning (ODL) and Online (OL) courses) to have mandatory prior Approval of AICTE.

This is in accordance with section 10 and 11 of AICTE Act, 1987 and AICTE Regulation issued from time to time. AICTE has clarified that State Universities (Govt. & Private) and Central Universities can run technical courses without approval. However, No-Objection Certificate (NOC) and approval is required for them for ODL and OL courses.

“Any Institution not having prior approval from AICTE and conducting programs / Courses as outlined above, is liable to Punitive / Legal action in accordance with para 11 & 12 of AICTE Regulation (1st Amendment,2021) as notified in the Gazette of India vide F.No. AB/AICTE/REG/2020 (1st Amendment, 2021) dated 24.02.2021,” the notice read.

The persons pursuing education with the institutions or aspiring to take admission in the institutions of Technical Educations are advised to ensure about the status of approval of institutions and Program/ Course concerned.

AICTE has asked such candidates to visit the official website as a list of unapproved institutions has been uploaded, it read adding, “All State Government/UTs and Universities are also requested to make aware the aspirants of technical educations about approved institutes by AICTE.” Meanwhile, AICTE has also extended the last date to apply for ODL and other online programmes for the academic year 2021-22 till September 6, 2021.
