AI courses across disciplines in AICTE institutions soon
Ahead of 2025, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is contemplating to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher and technical education.
All the higher and technical instructions have been asked to submit AI implementation plan by December 31, 2024.
It is pertinent to mention here that AICTE has been instrumental in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and industry readiness in institutions. So far, the AICTE has established 9 innovation centres, model curriculum, scholarship and other apprenticeship-embedded programs for the students.
Now inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a Vishwa Guru, AICTE has emphasised on the transformative potential for Artificial Intelligence (AI).
As per AICTE, AI is not merely a technological advancement but a catalyst for reshaping industries, economies and societies. Hence to lead this revolution, AI must be woven into the fabric of higher education.
The AICTE has urged all approved institutions to adopt several measures to affirm India’s leadership in AI. These include:
Each institution is requested to formally adopt and display the following pledge: "We pledge to position India as a Vishwa Guru in Al, leading Innovation, ethics, and education, fulfilling our Prime Minister's vision."
This pledge signifies a commitment to:
Introduce and Integrate Al courses across disciplines.
Foster innovation and research in Al
Prepare students for Al-driven Industries.
Promote ethical Al use for societal benefit.
Campus-Wide Campaign: "Al for All: The Future Begins Here"
Launching awareness campaigns with initiatives like AI Awareness Week, Workshops, guest lectures, and hackathons to demystify Al.
Al Student Chapters: Peer learning and innovation in Al.
Al Labs: Establish industry-aligned Al labs.
Al Career Pathways: Career counselling for Al-driven professions.
Al-First Curriculum: Update curriculum to include both foundational and advanced Al topics, fostering interdisciplinary approaches.
Faculty Development: Conduct workshops and certifications to equip faculty with Al teaching expertise.
