The body of a youth was found in front of his lover’s house at Duanpali village under Sadar police limits in Bolangir district on the evening of January 1. The deceased’s family alleged he has been murdered.

The deceased has been identified as Gandhi Sandha of nearby Kumapathar village. While there is a palpable tension in the village following the incident, police along with a scientific team reached the village on Monday morning and launched a probe.

Gandhi had been in a relationship with a girl of Duanpali village despite opposition from both the families. It is also discussed in the locality that they had attempted to end their lives a few months ago.

According to sources, Gandhi had visited Duanpali village to meet his girl friend on Sunday, the New Year’s Day. In the evening, his body was found in front of his girl friend’s house, in a pool of blood. The body had a deep wound on stomach.

According to the girl’s father, Gandhi had come to their house on Sunday and said he was in love with her and wanted to marry her.

Hearing this, the girl’s father said his daughter was neither in love nor wanted to marry Gandhi when the latter took out a knife from his pocket and stabbed himself. Later, he came out of the house running and fell on the ground, crying that he had stabbed himself. Minutes later, he breathed his last.

While the version of the girl’s father suggests it was a one-sided love story, the recovery of a photo where the duo posed for a selfie claims they had been in a relationship.

Following this the girl’s father informed the ward member who in turn informed the police. Upon reaching the spot, the police recovered the body for postmortem.

On the other hand, the deceased’s family members alleged their son has been murdered.

Registering a case on the basis of the family’s allegation, the police have launched an investigation.
