Youth hacked to death over past enmity in Khordha
In a macabre act, a youth was allegedly hacked to death over past enmity at Chachara sahi area under Town Police limits in Khordha on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Shaikh Sajid.
According to sources, a group of assailants attacked Sajid with sharp weapons while he was returning home in the afternoon today.
Sajid sustained grievous injuries in the attack. A profusely bleeding Sajid was immediately rushed to the Khordha District
Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where doctor declared him dead on arrival, sources informed.
At the time of filing this report, palpable tension was prevailing at the DHH as locals demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants.
No comments from the family members of the deceased could be obtained over the incident.
Following the murder, irate locals ransacked more than 20 vehicles including five cars and seven bikes,
Meanwhile, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania and Soumendra Priyadarshi, Director Intelligence have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
After reviewing the situation, the DGP appealed the people to maintain peace and not to take the law into hands.
“All senior officials and police officers visited the spot during an unusual law and order situation following the murder. The police will investigate the case from all possible angles and necessary action will be taken accordingly. We request everyone not to spread any rumours and maintain peace,” said Chanchal Rana, Khordha Collector.
Awinash Kumar, Khordha SP, said, “The relatives of the deceased have staged a road blockade. However, they withdrew it following assurance of action against the assailants. Further investigation into the matter is on.”
Meanwhile, prohibitory order under sec 163 of Bharatiya Nagarika Surakhaya Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed in Mouza Mukundaprasad- Ward number- 2, 21, 22 and parts of ward number 1 and 3.
The establishment like fuel station, health institutions and medicine shops in the above area shall remain exempted from the above order.
