A youth in Ganjam’s Khallikote was allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants in broad daylight on Friday over suspected past enmity, leaving him critically injured.

The youth has been identified as Alok Sahu from Bakutu village under Khallikote block.

As per reports, Sahu was returning home on a bike with a friend from Badapalli when five miscreants waylaid and attacked him with sharp weapons near Kamarasingh village.

While Sahu’s friend escaped from the miscreants unhurt, Sahu was chased and attacked brutally. The attack left him critically injured and writhing in pain on the road.

Sahu was rushed to the Khallikote hospital for treatment, he was soon shifted to MKCG hospital in Berhampur.

Sabita Sahu, the victim's mother said, “My son returned from duty last evening and slept after taking dinner. After waking up this morning, he went with a friend on a bike. After some time, I received news about the attack on my son.”

“The miscreants have stabbed my son with a knife and cut open his stomach. Apart from that they have also cut the vein on his ankle with a sharp weapon,” she added.

“Though I do not know the exact reason for the attack, I know all the attackers. They are from the neighbouring village and I can identify them too,” Sabita asserted.

The police have launched a probe into this connection and till the time of the filing of this report, no arrests were made.
