Mystery shrouds the death of a youth who was brutally murdered in a slum area at Bhubaneswar's Unit-8 on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as P Subrat Rao alias Chandu.

As per reports, Chandu was a drug addict and had returned after undergoing treatment at a de-addition centre.

Chandu’s family members alleged that he has been killed for opposing narcotics trade at Narayani slum area in the Capital city. They even claimed that Chandu was sharing information about the narcotics trade with Commissionerate Police officials.

“Chandu had called me and told to leave the place. After a few minutes, they attacked and killed my brother. My brother had quit everything,” alleged the deceased youth’s sister.

P Sibanand Rao, deceased Chandu’s brother said, “The mafia was indulged in selling narcotics in my brother’s name.  A lady and others were involved in the illegal narcotics trade. My brother had opposed to it and we suspect that the attack could be the fall out of this dispute or some other.”

It is also suspected that the killing could be linked to some illegal flesh trade.

Meanwhile, police have started an investigation into the incident.
