Woman shot dead while trying to save husband in Nuapada

A woman was shot dead while trying to save her husband at Thutibara village under Komana police limits of Nuapada district on Wednesday night.

As per report, the deceased identified as Kumudini Sabar sustained injury while trying to save her husband Sarat Sahu from Nilambar Suna.
According to sources, Nilambar demanded Rs 10,000 from Kumudini’s husband. When the later refused to entertain the extortion, Suna threatened to kill him.

As Suna opened fire at Sarat, Kumudini intervened and sustained injuries on her abdomen area.

She died on the spot, while the accused fled the spot soon after the incident.

“Suna came to my house and threatened to kill me if I failed to pay him money. When the altercation broke out, my wife intervened and in a bid to save me she sustained bullet wound,”, aid Sarat Sahu.

After getting information, police reached the spot and seized the body.

“Sarat Sahu has reported that when he was sleeping in his house, the accused in an inebriated condition knocked on his door and demanded money. When his (Sarat’s) wife intervened, the accused took out a pistol and shot Kumudini,” said Prashant Pattnaik, Nuapada SDPO.

An investigation has been initiated and efforts are on to apprehend the accused.
