Woman’s half-charred body found in Sambalpur; murder suspected

The half-charred body of a woman was recovered from near the Hirakud dyke area at Balbaspur under Sasan Police limits in Sambalpur district on Saturday. It is suspected that some miscreant has killed the woman and tried to destroy evidence by setting her body on fire.

Liquor bottles, cigarette butts and some snacks were recovered near the spot. Dry grass was used to burn the body of the deceased, sources said. As there is an abandoned house at some distance from the spot, it is suspected that the woman might be either killed there or some other place.

The spot from where the woman’s body has been recovered is completely an isolated place.

Sadar SDPO and other senior police officials have reached the spot and started an investigation. “Between 9:30 am and 10 am, we got information and immediately rushed to the spot. As per the directions of the SP, two special teams have been formed for further investigation into the matter,” Sadar SDPO said.

A team of forensic team has been roped in and the body will be recovered in the presence of a magistrate, the official stated.

“As the body is in burnt condition, we have started an investigation as per law. Appropriate measures will be taken to crack the case,” the SDPO added.
