The Ganjam police have arrested a woman from Polsara area of the district on Saturday on charges of stealing gold ornaments from her 'adopted' mother in October this year.

As per reports, the accused woman's husband is a murder accused and is currently lodged in jail. She required financial aid to fight the legal proceedings for which she targeted several other women at different bus stands and duped them under varying pretexts. 

Police said around six months back, the accused woman met Nirupama of Bikrampur area, under Khallikote police limits, at Kodala bus stand. The woman allegedly set her eyes on Nirupama as the latter was wearing lots of gold ornaments. 

With intentions of robbing Nirupama, the woman struck a rapport with her at the bus stand itself after winning her confidence. Thereafter, she remained in touch with Nirupama over phone calls. 

Later, the woman started referring Nirupama as her 'adopted mother' as the relationship grew stronger with time. She started visiting the latter's house frequently on different occasions.

Finally, on October 4, the woman got the opportunity strike and looted the gold ornaments from Nirupama's house without her knowledge.

However, On October 16, Nirupama found the jewellery missing from the house and immediately filed a complaint at the police station. 

The police launched a probe into the matter and based on Nirupama's statement, they managed to nab the woman from Polsara area after around 40 days of search. Moreover, the police have also arrested a jewellery shop owner who had purchased the stolen gold ornaments from the accused woman.
