Woman kills 6-day-old daughter in Odisha, arrested 

Police on Saturday arrested a woman on charges of killing her 6-day-old baby girl at Sianroi village under Kamarda Police limits in Balasore district.

The woman has been identified as Bandana Patra. 

According to the police, the baby was reported missing and was found dead in a village pond. On being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the body. The post-mortem was carried out at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jaleswar. 

The police then registered a case suo moto and detained four persons including the baby girl’s mother and grandparents. 

After receiving the post-mortem report, the police interrogated Bandana. During interrogation, she reportedly confessed to her crime. Subsequently, she was arrested on Saturday under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC. She was later produced in a local court.
