Woman injured in firing in Balasore, shifted to Cuttack medical; probe underway

A woman sustained critical injuries after two unidentified miscreants opened fire while she was inside her house at Raipal village in Balasore district on Tuesday night. The injured, Laxmi Murmu, has sustained bullet injuries in her waist, stomach, and hand.

As per initial reports, Murmu was reportedly sleeping when the miscreants sprayed bullets on her. Following the incident, Murmu was first rushed to Balasore Hospital and later shifted to the Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital. The exact reason behind the firing is unclear.

“After hearing screams of my wife, I rushed to the spot and saw that some persons fired gunshots at her. Later the miscreants fled the spot,” said the husband of the injured woman.

The daughter of the injured woman said, “My mobile was on silent mode yesterday and I got a call from my brother regarding the incident. We do not have any idea why the firing took place. Someone might have kept some grudge for which the incident happened. But we do not have any idea."

Saroj Upadhaya, Nilagiri SDPO said, “Two miscreants had fired upon the woman last night. We are investigating the matter and the probe is still in its preliminary stage. All aspects will be taken into consideration.”
