Berhampur Town police on Thursday arrested a lady on charges of cheating Rs 7.5 lakh from a person on the pretext of providing him with a job in the Railways.

The accused identified as JM Prabha was caught red-handed while she was taking Rs 3.5 lakh from a railways job aspirant, said police.

Though Prabha is a resident of Jagatsinghpur, she resides at Berhampur Saradhabali. She met Hitesh Patra who hails from Asurabandha village under Sorada block at Gandhi Nagar and promised to give him a job in the Railways. She asked him to pay Rs 11 lakh for the purpose.

Hitesh, without delay, had given her Rs 7.5 lakh in first phase. When Prabha demanded the remaining money after a few days, Hitesh raised doubts on her nature of work and approached police for help.

Accordingly a trap was laid to arrest Prabha. When Prava was collecting the sum from Hitesh, police arrested her.

Police seized Adhaar cards and many fake appointment letters from her possession. Besides, police have seized a diary from her. In the diary, the accused has mentioned the amount of money she has received from job seekers.
