In a shocking incident, a woman in Palaspata village under Boudh’s Baunsuni Police limits was allegedly hacked to death with a sharp weapon on Friday after she resisted a rape attempt.
The accused who tried to escape from the victim’s home was caught by the villagers and was thrashed mercilessly.
The victim has been identified as Suryakanti Pradhan who is survived by her husband and six-year-old daughter.
As per reports, a group of ‘Danda Nacha’ performers was camping at Palasapata village for their performance. One of the performers, Ugrasen Sethi, entered Suryakanti's home when her husband was not present and allegedly tried to outrage her modesty.
When she resisted, Sethi allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon killing her on the spot. Her six-year-old daughter escaped from the house and called the villagers, who nabbed Sethi and thrashed him black and blue.
A critically injured Sethi was handed over to the Police, who later admitted him to Baunshuni hospital for treatment.
The police have registered an FIR in this connection and launched a probe.
