A woman daily labourer was allegedly gang raped by four people on Monday night at Kopasingha under Sadar police limits in Sundargarh district.

Based on the complaint filed by the survivor, police detained three persons in this connection. The police said a manhunt has been launched to nab the fourth accused who is absconding.

As per sources, the woman, who was estranged from her husband and ekes out a living by selling fish, was on her way back home at 8 pm when four persons forcibly took her to a place and took turns to rape her.

Later, the victim filed a written complaint in this regard.

All the accused belong to Kopasingha. Police took the victim to the place where the incident happened. Police will send the victim for medical examination, revealed police sources.

Notably, a Bhubaneswar-based woman was allegedly gang raped by three youths on December 11 just because she objected to a noisemaking birthday celebration.

Mancheswar police swung into action after the victim lodged a complaint and arrested the three accused.

In November, a woman was gang raped in Bhubaneswar by two persons on the pretext of providing shelter.

Reportedly, the victim had come to Bhubaneswar in search of a job but could not return as it was pretty late. The two accused had then approached her on the pretext of taking her to a safer place for a night stay.

However, they took her to a secluded place and allegedly raped her. One of the accused was reportedly from Chandanpur while the other one was from Angul district.
