Police have arrested four persons for allegedly raping a married woman while she was going to relieve herself in Nimapara area of Puri district.

While the incident took place on Friday night, it came to light after the survivor’s husband lodged a complaint at Nimapara police station. 

According to the complaint, the woman had gone to nearby Kusabhadra River to relieve herself on Friday night. As she was all by herself, four persons took the opportunity and gagged her with a towel before taking turns to rape her.

When the woman’s husband came to the spot after hearing her screams, the four accused fled. 

The survivor identified one of the accused who works at a sweet stall near Nimapara old bus stop. The statement of the woman was recorded following which an investigation was launched and all the four accused were arrested. 

The police said the accused hail from Kakatpur area and work at different shops at Nimapara market. 

The medical test of the survivor was conducted and she was admitted to a hospital in Nimapara. Further investigation into the case is underway.
