A woman was found hanging under mysterious circumstances in her rented room at Badagada village under Badagada Police limits in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Sulochana Das, a native of Alana village in Jagatsinghpur district. For the last one year, she was staying in Bhubaneswar and was a dancer in stage shows.
The family members of the deceased alleged that she was murdered by her boyfriend Nihar Giri with whom she was staying in Bhubaneswar. Sulochana and Nihar had been quarrelling over their marriage, they alleged.
“We found one end of the dupatta was tied around her neck and another end to a blade of the ceiling fan. But it was loosely tied to the blade. And her knees were folded. She was in a relationship with a youth, who promised to marry her. She might have insisted on marriage and the youth in a fit of rage killed her,” said Milina Das, sister of the deceased.

Father of the deceased, Bairagi Das said, “He (Nihar) called us to inform us that Sulochana had died and asked us to take her body. Thereafter, when we tried to contact him, his mobile phone was found to be switched off. I believe he has murdered my daughter, I want justice.”
On being informed, a team from Badagada Police Station and a scientific team reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Capital Hospital for post-mortem. During the investigation, the police found some food items and liquor bottles lying on the floor.
On the basis of the family members’ allegation, the police have registered a murder case and launched a probe.
“Bairagi Das has lodged a complaint alleging that his daughter has been murdered. We have launched a probe,” said Truptiranjan Nayak, IIC, Badagada Police Station.
