Woman alleges gang rape over past enmity in Kandhamal, probe launched

A woman was allegedly gang raped by a group of youths over past enmity at Kereda village in Kandhamal district. 

The matter came to light after the survivor lodged a complaint at the Sadar police station. 

In her FIR, the complainant alleged that some people barged into her house on Sunday evening, ransacked her car and forced themselves on her. She said her husband was away from home when the incident took place.

She alleged that the sexual assault on her was a fallout of past enmity.

As per her complaint, a man had made derogatory remarks against Hindu religion in an inebriated state around two months back. The complainant said she had a commotion with the man after she protested against such behaviour. 

She alleged that accused along with his accomplices raped her to settle score with her. 

Inspector-in-charge of Sadar police said an investigation is underway and stringent action will be taken against the culprits.    

Sadar police station IIC Samir Rout said, “The woman has lodged a complaint that some people of the village barged into her house last night and attacked her over previous enmity. We have registered a case (12/2022) and an investigation is underway. Preliminary investigation suggests that it is a case of previous enmity and the complainant has been injured in the attack. Other allegations of the complainant are being probed.”
