The residents of Kalarahanga in Bhubaneswar were in for a shock after more than 14 human skulls and several skeletal remains were found below the Injana bridge in the locality under Mancheswar police limits on Wednesday morning.

As per reports, the skull dump was discovered when some passersby spotted those lying scattered under the bridge.

On receipt of information about the discovery, the police rushed to the spot and confiscated the human bone remains.

While the origin and the purpose of dumping so many skulls at a place still remains a mystery, the findings were sent to the forensic science laboratory for scientific analysis.

The seizure of the dump has nevertheless, spread panic in the locality.

A passerby, who spotted the dump, among others, told OTV, “We do not know who dumped these. But a glance at those suggests they had something to do with sorcery or black magic.”

Similarly, another bystander said, “We are really scared after seeing this. This is completely new for us.”

The Chief of Special Squad, Commissionerate Police, Sanjeev Satapathy who was at the spot for investigation, told OTV, “There are road and other construction works going on in the area. Those might have been unearthed during the excavation of earth and later dumped here.”

“These are old bones and prima facie I can say that those were dug up from somewhere and then dumped here. We have sent it for analysis to the AIIMS. We will be able tell the final findings after their analysis is completed,”

Worthwhile to mention here that this not the only instance when human remains were found from abandoned places in Bhubaneswar. Human skull and skeletons were recovered from a dustbin behind a school in Nayapalli on November 29, 2019. Similarly, the discovery of more than 20 human skulls under the Kushabhadra bridge on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar in 2014 had rocked the State too.
