In yet another incident of crime by a web portal scribe in Odisha, the Jharsuguda police on Wednesday arrested a web portal scribe for allegedly duping a girl of Rs 2.5 lakh under the pretext of marriage.

The accused has been identified as Deepak Dehuri.

According to reports, Dehuri, portraying himself as a journalist of a web portal, developed friendship with a girl from Badamala area on Facebook.

Their relationship soon turned into love. Gradually, Dehury won the girl’s trust and persuaded her to move to Panchapada under the pretext of marriage. He allegedly transferred Rs 2,50,000 from the girls’ account to his wife’s account.

Later, the girl lodged a complaint at Badamala police station. Based on the complaint, Badamala police registered a case and arrested the accused from Rourkela. Two identity cards and other documents have been sized from his possession.

“We are questioning the accused for further investigation into the incident. It is suspected that Dehuri is involved in many other cheating cases. If required, he will be taken into remand again,” said Jharsuguda SDPO.

Earlier, Malkangiri Police had arrested a web portal journalist on charges of smuggling Ganja (‎dry cannabis) during a raid in Khairiput block under the district. The police had also seized around 15 quintal of ganja and arrested as many as five persons including the scribe in this connection.
