The Inspector–In-Charge (IIC) of Nandapur police station in Koraput was attacked by a mob comprising of locals at Nandapur Haat on Sunday.

As per reports, a police team led by Nandapur IIC, Praful Lakra visited a china-clay mine at Nandapur Haat on May Day (Sunday) for inspection when the locals attacked him and pushed him into a pit.

Pertinent to mention here that the mine was closed and mining activities were stopped at Nandapur on the occasion of May Day.

When the security guards of a private security company visited the spot, the locals rounded them up and demanded ransom from them. When the Police reached the spot to free them, the locals allegedly attacked Lakra.

Confirming the attack, the SDPO of Nandapur, Sanjay Mohapatra said, “The IIC was attacked by some locals who had taken the security guards hostage and demanded ransom. We have registered cases against 60 persons of the village and detained two for questioning."

“Strict action will be taken against the accused,” Mohapatra added.
