Unidentified armed miscreants allegedly took away cash worth over lakhs of rupees from a petrol pump near Baripada and a Jana Seva Kendra in Kendrapara in two separate incidents on Monday.

Both the incidents have been captured on the CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity of the two establishments.

The CCTV footage in the first incident near Baripada purportedly shows as many as three bike-born armed miscreants arriving at Manchabandha petrol pump along National Highway No.18 late in the night. They asked the filling staff for petrol. However, suddenly one of the two pillion riders brandished a gun at the filling staff and snatched the money bag from him before fleeing the spot on the bike.

As per reports, the looters travelled from Baripada side and drove away towards Balasore. The petrol pump owner is yet to count the exact amount of money looted from the staff. A case has been registered in this regard at the local police station.

In another similar incident, armed youths looted over Rs one lakh at gunpoint from a Jan Seva Kendra at Chandol in Kendrapara district.

As per reports, three armed miscreants, on the pretext of making correction of their Aadhaar cards, barged into the centre in the afternoon.

The accused pointed a gun at two women staff present there and decamped with the cash amounting over Rs 1,00,000. They also took away as many as six new mobile phones and four pen drives.

The victims have lodged a complaint in this regard with the Kendrapara town police. The police have started an investigation into the incident and efforts are on to identify the robbers on the basis of the CCTV footage.
