At a time when family members of VSSUT student Chinmayi Sahu are alleging that she was strangulated before throwing into the water, her post-mortem report mentions drowning as the cause of death.

Sambalpur SP B. Gangadhar addressing a press meet on Sunday said, “The post-mortem report mentions drowning as the cause of death. Now our investigation is focused on ascertaining whether it was a suicidal drowning or murder. We have collected CCTV footage from various locations to examine if there is any evidence that they had any problem.”

“The mark on the deceased’s neck found during inquest is not a strangulation mark. Death is not due to strangulation and asphyxiation,” he clarified.

On the other hand, the deceased student’s father, mother, sister and other relatives were questioned at Burla Hirakud SDPO’s office today.

The SP said they were grilled to get some more information essential for the investigation.

It is pertinent to mention here that the lie detection tests of Chinmayi’s friend Preetiman Dey and his associate Manas Tudu were conducted at State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

Notably, Chinmayi, a student of the Information Technology department of VSSUT, Burla in Sambalpur attended the University’s convocation program on February 28 and received her degree. Later, she went to the Power Channel in Burla with her friend and went missing after falling into the channel. Her body was fished out on March 1.
