Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of Jharigaon in Nabarangpur district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 27,000. The CDPO has been identified as Sushama Prasad.

As per reports, Sushama had demanded Rs 27,000 from an Anganwadi worker (the complainant) towards a percentage of bills amounting to Rs 2, 11,250 for the supply of sweaters and dresses meant for the children in Anganwadi Centers.

Based on the complaint of the Anganwadi worker, a team of the State Vigilance launched a probe into the matter and arrested the CDPO.

Subsequently, simultaneous raids were conducted by the teams of the anti-corruption agency on properties of Sushama including her residence and office in Nabarangpur and Bhawanipatna.

A case (No 31 dt.30.12.21) under section 7 PC Amendment Act 2018 has been registered against her by Koraput Vigilance Police and further investigation is underway, said sources.

A Class-IV employee of the Works department, identified as Padmanabha Swain, in Balasore was recently caught red handed by Vigilance sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.  He was subsequently put under arrest.
