The accused have been identified as Sania Das, Sashikant Bhoi and Sanjay Behera. Most of the youths involved in the incident were unemployed while one of them worked as a security guard.

ACP (Zone 5) Sanjeev Satpathy said that raids were conducted at different places in the city and efforts are on to nab seven other accused who are absconding following the incident.

It is pertinent to mention here that the owner of the ladies hostel had earlier alleged that she was misbehaved, attacked by a group of road romeos who also ransacked property inside the ladies hostel.

The incident had occurred at around 10 pm on May 5 when the owner of the ladies hostel was standing near the gate and talking with one of her friends.

A group of youths pelted stones and when she objected, the youths made some lewd remarks and started attacking her and vandalising property inside the ladies hostel.

When asked whether security and patrolling near ladies hostel in different parts of the city will be intensified or not after the incident, the ACP said that the CCTV cameras at the ladies hostel was not working and the security guard was also not deployed.

“We appeal public to report to us if their premises is being used as a hostel for working women, girls and others. By this, we can identify such institutions and take necessary patrolling and security measures,” Satpathy added.
