Close on the heels of back-to-back theft of money from cash counters of several medicine stores, miscreants have once again managed to decamp with gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 12 lakh from a jeweller in Bhubaneswar.

As per reports, the miscreants were able to decamp with ornaments from the jeweller, identified as Basant Achari at Laxmisagar area in the Capital city. The incident, which occurred a few days back, has been caught on CCTV camera.

It is alleged that the two miscreants decamped with the bag containing gold and silver ornaments soon after Basant arrived to open his shop. One of the miscreants went straight towards the jewellery shop and picked the bag which Basant had kept on the floor while opening his shop.

From the CCTV footage, it has been ascertained that two miscreants fled the spot in a two-wheeler after committing the crime. Following the incident, a complaint in connection with the loot has been registered at Laxmisagar police station.

Earlier, two such incidents of loot by miscreants posing as customers had become the talk of the town. In the first incident, three youths stole around Rs 50,000 cash from a medicine store by tricking the shopkeeper at IRC village on Friday.

In similar fashion, miscreants looted Rs 36,000 from another medicine store at Rabi Talkies square in the Capital city. Meanwhile, repeated incidents of petty crimes have once again become a cause of concern for the residents of Bhubaneswar.
