At least 68 percent fraud cases are pending investigation. Only nine murder cases could be solved out of the 32. 77 rape cases have been cracked from 108. Out of the 791 fraud cases involving crores of rupees, only 147 cases could be solved. These are some figures, rather sorry figures of the Commissionerate Police's achievements in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in the year 2021.

However, like the saying ‘Better late than never,’ the Commissionerate Police have come up with a New Year’s resolution to not tolerate any crime or criminals in 2022 besides bringing improvements in the conduct and behaviour of the Police personnel.

Speaking to reporters, Police Commissioner, Saumendra Priyadarshi said, “As the police Commissioner, I promise to make the police more people-oriented. And as far as criminals are concerned, we have always taken sternest action against them and will continue to do so in the future.”

While the year 2021 was like a dance in the park for the criminals in the Twin cities, the Police also managed to make some arrests to instil fear in the minds of the criminals.

Looking at the arrests and seizures in 2021, brown sugar worth over Rs 12 Crore was seized from the Twin cities under operation 'White Spider'. Similarly, in the drive against organised crime, the

Commissionerate Police seized more than 80 firearms and countless ammunition.

The Police will look forward to strengthening its cyber cell further as over Rs 7 crore had been looted by cyber fraudsters from Bhubaneswar only. Likewise in road accidents, the Twin cities witnessed 107 deaths in the year 2021.

“We have initiated many drives in 2021 to get closer to the public. Particularly, the ‘Basti ku Chala’ initiative got us the trust of the slum dwellers in Bhubaneswar,” said Priyadarshi.

While the year 2021 comes to an end, it remains to be seen what all the Commissionerate Police can deliver on its promises in 2022.
