In a major breakthrough, the Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested fake doctor Ramesh Swain’s driver Pappu from Ranpur area in Nayagarh.

Swain was arrested last month for allegedly marrying several women in Odisha and outside by posing as a doctor and duping them of huge amounts of money.

As per police sources, Pappu is a close associate of Swain and has been working as a driver for him. It is suspected that he had helped Swain in perpetrating many fraudulent activities. Pappu was absconding following the arrest of Swain.

Police is said to have taken Pappu to an undisclosed location where he is being interrogated in connection with the crime charges against Ramesh and his links with the fraud man.

The development assumes much significance since it comes just a day after a team of scientific officials and police conducted a grueling polygraph test on Swain to elicit more information from him about his fraudulent activities.

Swain underwent the lie detector test at the State Forensic laboratory for about five hours during which he was believed to have been subjected to more than 50 questions.

Sources said, the fake doctor drank water thrice and also cried during the course of the test. However, it remains to be seen how far the police will be successful in extracting out truths from him.
