In a major crackdown, the Commissionerate Police demolished the shops and dens of drug peddlers who were arrested earlier, in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

As per reports, Dilip Baral and Purnima Baral were arrested by Nayapalli police earlier on charges of peddling drugs. On Saturday, taking stringent action against the drug peddlers, a police team launched a raid in Adibasi village of Saliasahi slum area, from where they operated the narcotic deals.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC)'s earthmover was employed to demolish the shop and the den in the presence of police.

"We have arrested a man and his wife acting upon a complaint that they had encroached upon government land in the middle of the road. They were trading brown sugar, a banned drug, from the shop. As they were involved in such illegal works and operating from government land, they were evicted," said Sanjib Satpathy, Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Further, Satpathy added, "If we receive a complaint about any person's suspected involvement in any illegal work or trading banned drug residing on government land, we will take strict actions against them after finding the truth."
