Trafficked and married off; Jajpur minor rescued after 2-month ordeal in Madhya Pradesh
In a major breakthrough, the Kaliapani police of Jajpur district rescued a minor girl from Madhya Pradesh nearly two months after she was allegedly sold and forcibly married. The accused youth, who had illegally purchased and married the girl, is being brought to Odisha.
According to police, the incident came to light after allegations surfaced that two women from Jajpur district had conspired to sell the college-going minor to a man in Madhya Pradesh.
A case was registered at Kaliapani Police Station on August 12, following which investigations revealed that the accused and his family were residing in the Sagar town area of Madhya Pradesh.
Acting on the direction of Jajpur SP Yashpratap Shrimal, a special five-member team of Kaliapani police was dispatched on August 19. The team successfully traced the victim and rescued her in a safe condition. The accused youth was also detained and brought back to Odisha for further investigation.
Both the victim and the accused underwent medical examination at the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital. Police officials confirmed that the accused will be interrogated and produced before the Court.
Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against all individuals involved in the trafficking racket, including the two women who allegedly masterminded the sale of the girl. The case has triggered concern in the district over rising instances of human trafficking targeting young girls.
“We traced the location of the missing girl three days ago and found her in the Sagar town area of Madhya Pradesh.
A team was sent to Madhya Pradesh, which successfully rescued the girl and arrested the accused. The minor girl will be handed over to her parents. Necessary action will be taken against all those involved in the case,” said SP Shrimal.
