In an uncanny incident, a man allegedly burnt his wife to death over a family feud at Gopapur village under Kankadahada police station in Dhenkanal district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Rangabati Das.

According to sources, Rangabati and her husband, identified as Niranjan Das, had an altercation over a matter last night.

The verbal spat took an ugly turn when Niranjan started thrashing Rangabati. Subsequently, he set her on fire after pouring kerosene on her, sources informed, adding that Rangabati succumbed to her injuries later. 

“In an arbitrated condition, my father thrashed my mother and later set her on fire which resulted in her death. I have registered a complaint with Kankadahada police in this regard,” said Bikash Das, son of the deceased.

On being informed about the incident, Kankadahada police reached the spot and seized the body before sending it for autopsy.

The police have also detained Niranjan in connection with the case and further investigation into the matter is on.
