In yet another instance of gross cruelty towards animals, a tiffin stall owner allegedly poisoned as many as 20 stray dogs to death in Cuttack.
The shocking incident took place at Shankarpur under Choudwar block in the district. The villagers have lodged a complaint against the accused at the Choudwar police station.
According to sources, local residents grew suspicious after at least 20 stray dogs died in a span of three days. Later, they found that the tiffin stall owner did the cruel act in order to get rid of the menace of stray dogs.
When confronted by the locals, the tiffin stall owner allegedly justified his act and admitted that he killed four stray dogs who had been repeatedly defecating near the clay oven (tandoor) of his shop. He said he killed the dogs by feeding them gulgula (fried doughnut) laced with pesticide.
“We learnt that a tiffin stall owner poisoned the stray dogs to death. We informed the Sarpanch and village heads. When we asked the tiffin stall owner, he admitted to killing the canines as the innocent animals defecated near the earthen oven,” said a villager.
“We have lodged an FIR with Choudwar police against the stall owner and demand stringent punishment against him,” the villager added.
