Theft accused escapes from Cantonment PS in Cuttack, video of crossing Mahanadi goes viral

The escape of a theft accused from Cuttack Cantonment Police Station has now become the talk of the town. Soon after escaping from the police station, the theft accused, identified as Sankarshan Behera alias Bablu, was seen crossing the Mahanadi River.

The video of Bablu wading through deep waters has also gone viral. As the water level of Mahanadi is also high, the theft accused at present is said to be missing.

As per initial reports, Bablu was brought to the police station in connection with a theft case. During interrogation, he shoved some police personnel and escaped from the police station.

Family members alleged that the cops had picked up Bablu two days back despite not being involved in any case. After initially keeping him at Bidanasi Police Station, he was shifted to Cantonment Police Station. The family members further alleged that Bablu was also tortured by the police.

Meanwhile, a search operation has been launched by police to trace the accused. A senior police official said, "Appropriate action will be taken against the police personnel if any dereliction of duty is found."
