Tension ran high at Gandakul village on Sunday after villagers demanded the DNA test of an unidentified body of a young girl that was recovered from a river near Athamania under Niali police limits in Cuttack district.

The body was totally decomposed and hard to identify.

According to sources, a girl identified as Pramodini Rout, daughter of Santosh Rout, had been to Cuttack to attend an interview on September 21. After the interview, she allegedly took a bus back to her village.

At around 2 PM, she called her family and informed them that she was close by and would reach soon. However, family members were worried after she did not reach home till evening.

They searched for her everywhere, but in vain. Later, they registered a missing case with the Niali police. However, it has been more than a few now, but the cops have miserably failed to trace the whereabouts of Pramodini.

Meanwhile, a body of an unidentified girl was found floating in a pond near Athamania. On being informed by locals, Niali police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. After failing to find the identity of the deceased, the Niali police buried it in a graveyard in the presence of the local magistrate.

On learning about the incident, Pramodini’s family members expressed outrage and demanded a DNA test of the body.

Speaking on the matter, Suresh Rout, a relative of Pramodini said, “She had been to Cuttack for an interview. I called her and she told me that she was in Badambadi bus stand waiting for the bus. She also called her mother and spoke to her. However, when I reached home after office, she had not reached yet. When we called, her phone was switched off. A body was recovered yesterday, we are not able to identify it. So, we request for a DNA test.”

“My mother had gone to attend an interview on September 21. She had called to inform us that she would return in a few hours. However, she went missing mysteriously. We request the administration for DNA test,” said Pramodini’s mother Mamina Rout.
