Teacher ‘misbehaves’ with Class 9 girl student in Rourkela school; irate guardians stage demonstration

The recent incident of gang rape of a minor girl in Rourkela had triggered state-wide resentment with the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) taking suo motu cognizance of the matter.

On September 21 evening, a minor girl was allegedly gang-raped and her sibling, who is also a minor, was sexually assaulted by some youths near Birsa Munda Chhak in Rourkela.

Amidst the ongoing outrage and investigation, another incident of a class 9 girl student being allegedly misbehaved by a teacher at a private school in Rourkela has come as a concern. Irate over the incident, scores of guardians on Tuesday staged a demonstration at school under Plant Site police station limits.

The parents of the girl students have alleged that the teacher misbehaved with their daughter on Saturday. The Parents’ Association is demanding stern action against the teacher against whom such allegations have been levelled.

“We send our children hoping that they will be secure. But here things are totally different. We want immediate action against the teacher involved in such act,” alleged a parent.

Rourkela DSP, Nirmal Mohapatra said, “The girl student’s parents have lodged a complaint against a teacher for misbehaving with her. We will register a case and take appropriate action after an inquiry.”

Baldip Singh, a member of the school committee said, “Today, we have received the complaint and the incident occurred on Saturday. The teacher is absent for the last two days. We will immediately remove the teacher against whom such allegations have been levelled. We are standing with parents and cooperating with police.”
