A teacher reportedly owning assets worth over a whopping Rs 4.73 crore has ended up landing under the scanner of Odisha Vigilance authorities for accumulating the wealth through illegal means.

Four teams of the Vigilance led by 4 DSPs, 5 Inspectors, and other staff of the agency on Saturday unearthed the massive haul of property after conducting raids at six locations including the residence of one Sisir Semeli, Teacher, Kampar U.P. School under O/o Rayagada Block Education Office, under the strength of search warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Koraput.

The probe teams stumbled upon an eye-popping account of wealth owned by the teacher which includes two triple-storied buildings worth over a total Rs 2.30 crore in valuation and two double-storied buildings combinedly valued at more than a crore.

Similarly, 35 numbers of asbestos houses and another house (lent out on rent for wine shop), together valued at a worth more than Rs 75 lakh have also been found in the name of the teacher.

The list of movable property possessed by the teacher showed two four-wheelers worth around Rs 19.5 lakh and gold ornaments weighing 408 grams with a market value of around Rs 12.24 lakh.

As per an inventory of the disclosed movable assets of the teacher as furnished by the Vigilance authorities, the probe team also found hard cash of Rs 2.88 lakh from his residence apart from bank deposits and SBI Life Insurance policy with a total value of more than Rs 25 lakh.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
