The Vigilance officials on Friday intercepted Talcher Traffic Inspector Jitendra Kumar Behera and recovered cash to the tune of over Rs 11 lakh, suspected to be ill-gotten.

Behera was intercepted by a team of Odisha Vigilance at Trinath Bazar, Balianta in Bhubaneswar while he was travelling from Talcher to Astarang.

As Behera could not provide satisfactory answer regarding the cash, the money was subsequently seized by the Vigilance officials. Following this, a team also conducted a search at Behera’s rented house at Talcher and house in Astarang area in Puri in connection with disproportionate assets case angle.

Senior Vigilance officials informed that Rs 3,08,750 cash, 336 grams of gold were recovered from the rented house in Talcher and Rs 10 lakh from Behera’s house at Astarang. The total cash seizure from Behera stands at Rs 24.24 lakh. The house of Behera’s brother is also being searched at Paradip.
