A student at the Government ITI College in Talcher of Angul district died under alleged doubtful circumstances on late Friday night. Suspecting foul play, the deceased student’s family members have lodged a complaint with the Talcher police demanding a probe into the death.

The deceased has been identified as Bhabani Shankar Behera, a resident of Urugula village under Handapa police limits in Angul district. He was a student of Electrical Trade and staying in the hostel of the Government ITI College.

The deceased’s family members said that Bhabani complained of sickness on Friday night. He was rushed to the Talcher sub-divisional hospital where he breathed his last.

The deceased’s father, Anadi Behera alleged that the ITI authorities should have informed him about the health condition and death of his son. “I came to know about my son’s death from his friends,” he alleged.

“On Saturday morning, my son’s friends called me on my mobile phone to inform that Bhabani was no more. The news left me completely devastated. It was hard to believe I had spoken to him yesterday (Friday),” said Anadi.

He said it was the duty of the institution authorities to inform him about the developments.” Neither the principal nor has the hostel warden contacted us as yet. I could not contact the college principal as I don’t have his number. Since my son was fit and fine till Friday, his sickness and subsequent death seem unbelievable to us. We suspect foul play,” Anadi said, adding that he has demanded a fair probe into the death.

The reactions of the college authorities and the police are yet to be received.
