A day after arresting millionaire Additional Superintendent Police (ASP) Trinath Mishra in a DA case on Tuesday, the Odisha Vigillance on Wednesday said that the policeman’s possessions are 500 per cent more than his known sources of income.

SP, Vigilance, Akshay Mishra said, “The properties belonging to Mishra and his family members have been estimated to be worth Rs 11 crore. This is 500 per cent more than the police officer’s known sources of income.”

The Vigillance on Monday produced Mishra in a special court which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.

Meanwhile, Mishra’s wife, Diptimayee Choudhury, denied all the allegations and said her husband has been trapped as part of a planned conspiracy.

“Ï will prove in the court who is right and who is wrong. I can assure you that Vigilance officials will not be able to show even an iota of evidence against my husband,” Choudhury told reporters.

During searches at the multiple premises linked to the police official, the Vigilance sleuths allegedly came across documents and evidence indicating the involvement of his son and his family members in several business enterprises, including a Hospital and Medical Care centre (Shantilata Care Nursing Home) at Chandikhole in Jajpur district and a medicine store (Shanti Drug House). Both are licenced in the name of Mishra's wife. A Transport business in the name of M/s Shantilata Transport with its offices located at Chandikhole and Dhanmandal, Jajpur is found running under the name of Mishra’s spouce.

Besides, a fleet of luxury cars and superbikes were also found in the possession of Mishra and his family.

Speaking on the crackdown against corrupt government officials in the State, Director, Vigilance, Jaswant Jethwa said, “In the last 45 days, 31 cases have been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act in which 23 accused have been forwarded to court. The list includes four class-1 officers, Jethwa said.

Sources said that Mishra has moved for bail which is likely to be heard on February 21.
