Unidentified miscreants struck at Sunadei temple located at Tinimundia Chhak near Nicco Park area in Bhubaneswar and decamped with gold and silver ornaments and other articles worth Rs 5 lakh. The matter came to light on Tuesday morning.

As per initial reports, the thieves entered the temple by scaling the boundary wall. Later, they entered the main temple premises and looted the ornaments, sarees and other articles after breaking open two locks.

The priest of the temple was shocked after finding the locks of the temple broken today morning. Later, he alerted the temple management officials for lodging a police complaint.

“The thieves have looted the eyes of the Goddess made of gold and other items including a silver crown. I found the locks of the gate temple broken and alerted the temple president about the incident,” said the priest adding that articles in other temples inside the premises are intact.

An official of the temple said, “I got a call from the priest at around 5:30 am and learnt about the incident. We cannot suspect anybody as every day many devotees come for darshan here.”
